Christian fundamentalist schools teaching girls they must obey men | Education News | News | The Independent

This is disgusting. Why any society allows Religious Fundamentalists to get their hands on our children is beyond me. But this is what is happening in our schools here as they change to academies. We are selling education to the highest bidders – Big Business and Religious nutcases. They are in the business of indoctrinating our children. I see that as child abuse.
It is as bad as ISIS taking over our schools.
Religion should be kept out of our schools!

  1. Who are the people in education authority that sanction this nonsense? Are they untouchable to the extent that they cannot be brought to task on this?

    1. They do not seem to care. They know there are hundreds of illegal unregulated schools; they know that the curriculum of many academies has been skewed; they know children are being indoctrinated or made into exam fodder for business – and they do not act!
The ones that matter go to private schools. They can get education on the cheap by passing it over to a creeping privatisation.

  2. This is the result of major government interference in how schools are financed, administered and the ‘free’market. Educational charities in the past and in the empire were mainly dominated by this missionary zeal. Oh for the old LEAs so much more accountable. Academies seem above any of this. And what happened to PTAs?

    1. They have removed parents from the governing bodies. Schools are run as businesses. There is no accountability or assistance. LAs are now powerless. They are using Ofsted as a cudgel to generate fear and make everyone toe the line. The other aspect of academisation is to divide pay and conditions and break unions. They can then erode pay and conditions willy-nilly.

      1. And Gove led on this. The disaster Tory politics have created in education seems to me the best reason for ‘Bremain’ take care and good to catch up. Have been so busy with friends and family on holiday with us!

      2. I quite agree Georgina. The thought of Gove, Fox and Johnson let loose on education and the NHS is a nightmare. It’s bad enough now but they are all in favour of complete privatisation, market forces and sell-off. What a future!
Sounds like you’ve been having a good time!

  3. This seems so strange to me. I don’t know how it is in other states in the US, but in Utah private parochial schools and homeschooling families are monitored very closely. Those kids are tested with the same tests as the public school kids. I taught kindergarten in the 90’s and the curriculum we used was very accelerated. My kids were reading at a second-grade level by the end of the school year. The math part of the curriculum wasn’t as strong in that particular curriculum. But we had to tow the line when it came to making sure kids got taught the basics. In fact, very little of the day was spent in any kind of religious teaching at all. Of course it was not a Baptist school. But here I think most parents put their kids in a Christian school because they thought they were better disciplined and taught how to behave correctly. Hate to tell ’em this, but kids are kids no matter where they go to school (or don’t) and there was no physical discipline allowed. These guys over there must be really rogue. I couldn’t get the video to buffer so I couldn’t listen to it.

    1. This government is allowing all types of aberrations – free schools who do not need qualified teachers – religious schools with skewed religious curricula and academies run by businesses. It is disgusting what is going on.
But in California I had to give 50% of my teaching on evolution to creation. I had parents in my lessons with timers. I did a Monty Python version and they did not even seem to catch on that I was sending it up.

      1. I taught in Norwalk High School in Los Angeles for a year – the place with the highest gang-related murders in America! 11 that year in that one district. But the kids were great and it was a superb year.
