Hijacked by Life
I’ve been hijacked by life on the way to reality;
Left me stranded out here on the verge of insanity!
Can make sense of this swirl of confusion
Battered and broken ‘til I’m one great contusion.
I headed off so eagerly making up all the rules
Found myself marooned on a rock with these fools.
Can’t seem to find the way back to some sense.
Direction so hazy and people so dense.
I knew what I was doing; it being so clear.
The closer I got the answer became less near.
I’m wondering why we all do what we do.
Should be so easy – it’s time that we grew.
Bogged down in the mazes we make for ourselves
Mixing up science with pixies and elfs.
Buildings things up and knocking things down.
Voting for a madman who acts like a clown.
What a mess we are making of a planet so fair
That it could have been perfect with a little care.
I’ve been hijacked by life on the way to reality;
Left me stranded out here on the verge of insanity!

I can’t help thinking how easy it all seemed when I was young. The world was a mess – a meaningless race for money and power but we’d seen a better way. Instead of greed and lust we went looking for love, fulfilment, fun, creation and wisdom.
Seemed to make so much more sense.
Instead of this endless cycle of war and destruction we were looking for peace and tolerance. Instead of hypocrisy and greed we were looking for spiritual enlightenment and sharing. Instead of division and intolerance we were breaking down walls and letting love in. Instead of plastic we wanted nature.
Well the walls are back. Intolerance wins votes. We elect belligerent morons with black and white answers. We worship the dollar and plant bombs for a god we’ve invented. We’re blowing buildings, babies and the environment to smithereens. We pour our money into drones, missiles and destruction.
As for nature and the planet, spiritual fulfilment and creativity……. Where’s the money in that???
Intelligence??
Sanity??
The future??
