Somehow an ancient section of a constitution from three hundred years before is held to be immutable and sacred.
Somehow a piece of writing from the days of blunderbusses now applies to assault weapons and machine guns.
Somehow a piece of legislation geared to ensuring an armed militia was prepared should the colonial army invade is now used to give every lunatic the right to own a snipers rifle.
Somehow it is now possible for any mentally deficient fool, blood-thirsty psychotic, potential murderer, potential violent criminal and mentally insane kid to strut around with the latest military gear.
Somehow it’s considered right for the most extreme militants to march around with heavy artillery.
Somehow people feel safer when armed to the teeth in the midst of a seething mass of armed people despite all the evidence to the contrary.
How many more deaths does it take for people to realise that archaic laws and constitutions designed for different times are sheer madness in the modern world.
America is as dangerous as any third world country. The death toll is enormous.
As of Dec. 7, at least 40,167 people have died from gun violence in the U.S. this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive – which is an average of almost 118 deaths each day.
There’s been 22,506 deaths by gun suicide this year, an average of about 66 deaths by suicide per day in 2023.
