Addiction
Come listen to the addict
As he lies to you.
He wants another fix.
There’s nothing he won’t do.
His brain has been rewired.
He’s eaten up with pain.
He’ll try his very hardest
But the need will still remain
He’s telling you he’s managing
Everything is good.
Needs money for the landlord
Needs some cash for food.
Like a fool you give it him
You feed the evil lie.
He spends it on another fix
All morality has died.
You can’t believe a word he says
He’s feeding the starving bear.
Insatiable, all-consuming
It drags him everywhere.
Stop listening to the addict
Feeding that beast
You’re only putting off
The time til it will cease.

I have had good friends die from addiction. I have watched the light die. Alcohol seems to be among the worst – an addictive poison.
Most of us can enjoy a drink – even get pissed once in a while – a good social relaxer – fun. For others it is a career-destroying, health-robbing cancer that takes everything slowly over time; kills the light in the eyes and then, when everything is gone, it takes the life.
So many friends…..
