I have just heard the news that John Mayall has died. That is incredibly sad. Back in the 60s I used to regularly bounce along at Mayall’s gigs and was fortunate enough to see him with many great line-ups including guitarists Clapton, Pete Green and Mick Taylor. Then there was Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce and hosts of others. They brought the Blues to life. Always a great night out.
A little while back (some years now) I was fortunate to catch him with Mick Taylor at Hull City Hall. They came out to sign albums and talk to us.
There are two main people responsible for the whole Blues scene – Alexis Korner and John Mayall. Without them we would not have had the Rolling Stones, Cream, Fleetwood Mac and countless other brilliant Blues bands.
