A Witch Hunt? Political Persecution??

Well – Did he do it or didn’t he??

Remembering back to that really fraught, tight period of time leading up to the 2016 election:

It was a very tight race Hilary Clinton had traction and was gathering momentum for a decisive win.

She was torpedoed by Comey, the Head of the FBI, who controversially publicly reopened criminal investigations into the emails Clinton had sent on her own laptop in an act that was widely seen s political and a response to extreme pressure from Trump. That happened at a crucial time, looked politically inspired and took the wind out of Clinton. It is quite likely that lost Clinton the election.

Ironically, Trump, in his usual bellicose bluster, was calling her ‘Crooked Hilary’. Absolutely ludicrous and extremely ironical in hindsight! He was orchestrating his minions to chant ‘Lock Her Up!’ and making out she was part of some Deep State chicanery.

Trump already had a long history of allegations of dubious business deals, fraud, tax evasion and associations with underworld characters, Russian mafia and sex trafficking individuals (like Epstein). He’d wriggled out of all of it in his usual belligerent manner without ending up in court or prison. Yet, for Trump, with his long history of possible dodgy dealing to be vociferously calling out others as crooks was pretty laughable.

At this delicate moment in time a porn star by the name of Stormy Daniels went public with threats of telling all about playboy Trump and his sordid sexual exploits.

Trump was courting the evangelical right and, with America being the land of prudery and religious hypocrisy, the stories of romps with porn stars, salacious sexual cheating, pussy grabbing and sleaziness did not fit with the god-fearing, successful businessman, celebrity image he was looking to project. The image of a sleazy sex fiend and abuser might just have put off a portion of his voters and undermined the image he was desperate to cultivate.

If Stormy Daniels had revealed all she knew it might well have completely ruined his chances. He chose to try to hush it up until at least after the election. He bought her off.

So he instructed his lawyer Cohen to pay her $130,000 dollars to keep quiet. He reimbursed Cohen later.

This is where this dodgy dealing gets interesting.

The timing was fraught. The matter sprang up days before the election. It could have blown Trump out of the water and exposed him as a scuzzy, cheating sex fiend. By deliberately keeping this information from the media and public was Trump committing a crime?

There are a number of angles – while payment for an NDO is in itself not a crime was Trump, as District Attorney Alvin Bragg alleges, trying “to conceal crimes that hid damaging information from the voting public”.

Looks like that to me.

But prosecutors have further focused on how Mr Cohen’s reimbursement was recorded in Mr Trump’s accounts. He is accused of falsifying his business records by categorising the payment as for legal fees.

That is a criminal offence!

A court has already agreed that – In August 2018, Mr Cohen was imprisoned after pleading guilty to tax evasion and breaking campaign finance rules, in part related to his payment to Ms Daniels and another alleged Trump lover (how many other sleazy cheatings are there? And what was going on with his friend Epstein? Will we ever know?).

Although he initially said that Mr Trump had nothing to do with the payments, Mr Cohen later testified under oath that Mr Trump had directed him to make the $130,000 hush-payment.

So Cohen has already been found criminally guilty and imprisoned for this offence! Yet it was Trump who orchestrated the cover-up and tax evasion, wasn’t it?

This is critical. Because, in effect, if this is true, Trump stole the 2016 election by covering up his own wrongdoings and attempting to hide his wrongdoings by burying the evidence in an illegal manner.

Clinton was found innocent yet the ‘Crooked Hilary’ won Trump the election.

But who was the real crook?

Hilary Clinton still won the popular vote by some millions but, due to the vagaries of the outlandish and archaic collegiate system, lost the election.

If Trump had not acted, as is claimed, illegally, he would almost certainly have lost.

So, that brings us back to the opening question: is this a witch hunt that is politically motivated?

Well I ask a series of questions:

Has Trump got away with numerous criminal activities down the years?

Did Trump steal the 2016 election through criminal acts?

Is he guilty of criminally hiding Germaine information from the American public?

Did he deliberately, criminally, try to cover this up using a mechanism involving lies and tax evasion?

If the answer to these is yes then he is a crook who deserved to be locked up!

My conclusion is that it is far from a witch hunt. The courts have to be involved if there is criminality. That is what happens in a civilised country with a rule of law. Nobody is above the law. Not even ex-Presidents are immune from the law. All are treated equally in front of the law.

All the attempts to stop the trial, the obstacles and slowdown tactics, look like the desperate actions of a guilty man. The aggressive rhetoric, threats and arrogant denials (which have worked so well many times in the past) sound like hollow words to me.

Trump is making out that it’s all politically motivated in order to pump up his cult followers.

I say – LET THE COURTS DECIDE!! They’ll look at the evidence.

If he didn’t do it then he will be exonerated!

If he did do it then he is a criminal – LOCK HIM UP!!
