What are the features of a good society?

The type of society I want to live in has these features:

a. Equality – A society in which there is not a huge disparity between rich and poor. People are rewarded fairly in line with what they contribute and how hard they work.

b. Pluralistic – I want to live in a society which contains many different types of individuals; that is tolerant of race, sexuality, gender, religion and culture. I believe this creates a vibrant interaction.

c. Caring – a society that has empathy, looks after the weakest, cares for minorities and the frail.

d. Tolerant – a society that is tolerant of different lifestyles, attitudes and allows people to openly express their views.

e. Just – where all are treated fairly and equally by the laws regardless of wealth, class, race, gender or anything else.

f. Fair Laws – A society in which laws are not too draconian and controlling or an individual and their life, but strong enough to prevent people being abused. Laws that are big enough to prevent Big Business running roughshod.

g. Environment – I want to live in a society that cares for the environment and protects animals and their habitats.

h. Democracy – I want to live in a democratic system where every vote counts.

And that is pretty much why I would never be a Tory!!
