Bang Those Pans
Bang those pans
For our heroes
Empty pans
That should be full of food.
Bang those pans
Pay rise zeroes
Empty pans
From Ministers who are rude.
Bang those pans
Empty gestures
Empty pans
Born of austerity and cuts.
Bang those pans
Unrest festers
Empty pans
For those who served with guts.
Bang those pans, empty pans,
Empty promises, empty words,
Banging on, empty pay packets
Pay review – tell it to the birds.
Bang those pans
Bang those pans
Bang those pans
Why the hell were we banging pans??
Opher – 12.12.2022
In the midst of the pandemic when our nurses were working around the clock, risking their lives without adequate protection, short staffed, working double shifts, saving lives, holding the hands of the dying, some giving their lives, away from their families, we were out on our doorsteps clapping and banging pans.
The nurses, like the rest of the public services, scapegoated by the Tories as parasites because they don’t actually produce wealth.
Subjected to twelve years of austerity and cuts until they are reduced to using food banks.
What kind of world is this?
A world in which, at the same time, the Tories were holding their VIP lane criminality to award multimillion-pound contracts to their donors and friends so that people like peeress Mone were about to walk away with £29 million for doing nothing.
So what were we banging pans for?
To build a world fit for heroes? Or to support hypocrisy?
