Poetry – Death by a thousand cuts

Death by a thousand cuts

Driving out the immigrants.

Kicking out the nurses.

Dumping all the doctors.

Counting all the hearses.

Not needing the carers

Sneering at low pay

Bin men and veggie pickers

Sent on their way.

Giving all the tax cuts

To wealthy corporations

Hammering public servants

Right across the nation.

Inviting private companies

In a dive to the bottom

Hens come home to roost

Whole system’s rotten!

Opher – 22.4.2020

The stupidity of Brexit, the fear of immigrants, the hostile environment – it’s all driven away nurses, doctors, carers, vegetable pickers, drivers and shelf-stackers – all the people we now realise we really need.

Ten years of Tory austerity running down the NHS, starving public services, while giving away tax cuts to the wealthy.

Now we see the stupidity of running down the NHS and driving all those people away. It turns out that the low-paid and public servants are highly valued members of society!

I'd like to hear from you...
