Just Flotsam
Just flotsam,
Floating in the currents,
Drifting from shore to shore,
At the mercy of the wind.
Just a dream,
Sailing through a mind,
From thought to thought
At the behest of a whim.
Just a life,
Wending through a crowd,
From liaison to liaison
Dictated by a heart.
Just a purpose,
Searching for a focus,
In the midst of apathy,
Driven by compassion.

This season always leaves me reflecting back through life. It seems to me that we rarely plan our lives; we just drift. There is aimlessness about it. But occasionally we impose some measure of choice.
Too often we are blown along by what is going on around us.
If only we could find the time, energy and objectivity to make sound decisions.
I feel like a piece of flotsam.
Opher – I think winter months find many of us returning to the metaphysical womb in preparation for new birth in the spring. We need winter months to reflect upon our past as well as our present, so as to know what aspects of ourselves to discard and what emerging potentials to embrace. Ideally we should arrive in the spring, pristine and energised to propel ourselves forward. But forward towards what exactly, is the six million dollar question.
What exactly is personal betterment? What defines it, and how should it come about? Why is it so insistent a force within some of us but not so much in others? Does humankind rely on such constructs to evolve? If so, where would Nature like us to head to, or arrive at? What direction should we go?
There is a school of thought that suggests our destiny is made known to us before we are born, but that the process of birth itself has us forget our true purpose. As a consequence of forgetting, our life’s purpose is dedicated to rediscovering this intention. I guess some arrive at understanding whilst others don’t. Some may even find their destiny to be that of a drifter, a dreamer, a wandering star, though for what purpose is not known, but the feeling is overpowering: it is simply what the Universe decrees, for She has grand designs far beyond our understanding.
Do you think having a career is as important in this modern age as it was maybe fifty years ago?
Are we not all dreamers to some extent? Aren’t all choices made within constricting human constructs always a compromise to our deep-seated values, our desires, and our individual sense of freedom? Is life better viewed through closed eyes and the lens of the imagination?
Long, long into the future, when humankind has evolved to become pure consciousness, perhaps then we will become all that we are. Until then, it’s drift or be ground by the grinder for pittance.

Gosh Dewin, that’s a lot of thoughts.
I never feel refreshed by winter. It wears me down. I feel refreshed by sunshine and warmth – warm evenings to sit and ponder – not shivering around fires.
I’m not sure about personal betterment. It seems only a minority care about that. For me it is fundamental though.
Careers??? Looks like they count for nought. Loyalty is for suckers.
I don’t believe in destine. I believe in creating purpose.
We might well not survive to evolve!!
