Fracking – the debate.

I’d like to hear your views on this one. Is it a way of making ourselves a producer of gas and freeing ourselves from Russian supply, boosting the economy and creating jobs? Or is it an environmental disaster that will pollute our aquifers, use billions of gallons of water and dry up our rivers, and increase our burning of fossil fuels distracting from alternative renewables and adding to global warming?

  1. Opher, I’m a Green Party member so would definitely push for renewables. The push for fracking comes from Big Oil Corporations and in particular the Koch Brothers, who are behind the Alberta tar sands project and the associated pipeline projected to go right across Canada and the USA, so they can export it mainly to China.

Fracking in the UK may create jobs but they’ll be poorly paid yet hazardous. The ones who profit from it will be the Big Oil companies and the MPs that take their money to support it.

Many parts of Pennysilvania and Ohio are now wastelands due to fracking, and those unfortunate to be unable to move away from a fracking area are becoming terminally ill. It is utter madness
