Yo, me again.
Gotta be 1964 for that ExplOsiOn. That whole scene got seriously crazy `64, not just with the Brit Boom, but the tons of Garage bands all over the States coast to coast.
I used to DJ at KLOS and have lists of lists of rotation lists.
These are some I have a green marker on – so I must have liked `em!
The Animals
The Artesians
The Beach Boys
The Beau Brummels
Bo Street Runners
The Graham Bond Organisation
Carter-Lewis & The Southerners
The Centurions
Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames
The First Gear
The Gestures
The Kinks
The Mighty Avengers
The Mojos
The Nashville Teens
The Poets
The Premiers
The Pretty Things
The Ready Men
Sam The Sham & The Pharaohs
The Sonics
Them
The Trashmen
Yardbirds
The Zombies
Plus the obvious The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Moody Blues, The Hollies & The Searchers and too many US already established acts like Roy O. But these above were all kinds brand new.
& these are just the white guys – the black music scene was a whole other deal in the States compared to England. Took a bit longer to happen over your way. That’s another list entirely and would take a day to type them out.
Hi Bob – thanks for that – very enlightening. Those were the days. That Beat Music boom was an amazing time. All those bands coming out of the woodwork with all that energy and creativity. Great times.
I love your list.
Yes we were starved of all that great Black R&B. We only got to hear the tip of that iceberg.
