Poetry – Brief Ecstasy

Brief Ecstasy

A mayfly launched into the sky.

For just one day

It shone.

It soared and flew

Into the light.

Danced on the currents.

It met and mated,

Laid its eggs

And then it died.

All its life

Scorched

Within an ecstasy,

A brief moment

With no regrets.

I felt that the mayfly’s life was so perfect. It had nothing to clutter its purpose.

It emerged into the light and exalted in living for such a brief time and then was gone.

So like us, except in our brief time we lose sight of the light.
