Icelandic beauty – a volcanic coast
The basalt cliffs with their hexagonal basalt go on and on. The lava flow must have been immense.
Iceland – Incredible basalt cliffs
Iceland is made of new rocks as the tectonic plates move apart. The lava streams up through the shallow crust. It cools into amazing hexagonal columns of basalt.
Not a great place for fossil hunters!
Iceland, harbours, volcanic bays and arctic terns.
The scenery is unique.
Iceland – Heading into the interior
We set off from Grundafjordur into the interior – well at least along the coast. Everywhere you looked the scenery was magnificent. Built of volcanic ash and lava. The new, brittle lava covered with thick layers of spongy moss.
Plenty of wild life!!
