I’m on Holiday in the Universe

I’m on Holiday in the Universe

I’m on holiday in the universe,

Waiting for my flight back home.

It’s been a very pleasant break

                I really mustn’t moan.

Soon it’s back to reality:

                The mindless hum of nothing.

They tell me that there’s something there,

But I know they’re only bluffing.

I started out with nothing

I’ll go back with the same.

Not even the memories

Of time spent in this game.

But at least I’ve got to live

And spend my time with you.

Even if it has been

                A madhouse and a zoo.

The fear of oblivion

                Has tainted all this dream.

Though even the endless void

Is not all that it may seem.

They let me out

                For a short break;

A fantasy,

                Where everything’s fake.

I’m on holiday in the universe,

Waiting for my flight back home.

It’s been a very pleasant break

                I really mustn’t moan.

Once there was nothing. Then I opened my eyes and there was a whole damn universe. Bewildering.

I’ve spent seventy three years exploring a miniscule part of it. I’d need a million lifetimes and a faster than light scud to see a fair portion.

I found myself stranded on a rock in space, marooned with a bunch of psychotic apes pretending to be clever. They’re wrecking the joint. They call it having fun.

They like pain.

They are love collecting weapons.

Throughout their short history they’ve indulged in killing each other, stashing away as much loot as they can get their hands on, getting out of their heads, stealing, doing cruel things and hurting each other.

They like to reproduce.

They seem oblivious to the universe outside. They think it goes on forever.

How wrong they are.

Soon they’ll close their eyes.
