Thomas Hood (1799 – 1845) was a poet, publisher, editor, and humorist. The son of a bookseller, he was born in London and lived there for most of his life, with stints in Scotland and Belgium. Well known for his puns and comic verse, Thomas also composed poems that drew attention to the social evils of his day.

Lol Neil. I was only remarking to the ladies in the local shop how remarkable November has been. We used to have this clammy fog and cold descent on us at the beginning. I always saw firework day as the turning point – the 5th. But we’ve had warmth right up until yesterday. In fact it has been incredibly warm with temperatures here actually hitting 17 degrees. The clematis started flowering again! So November didn’t really start until the 28th! That’s a staggering three and a half weeks later than before.
Well, it hasn’t been as warm as 17 degrees down here. You must be in a sunny spot up in Yorkshire! Here, it has been quite mild, but with very little sunshine, and a lot (a lot!) of rain. The rain has pretty much made up for the dry, warm summer. I’d be grateful for a mild winter, given what the politicians have done to energy prices.
Has here. I’ve been in summer stuff! I think, for a change, we’ve been in the warmest part of the country. We’ve had a lot of rain but mostly at night!
I too hope for a mild winter but I think with the way global warming works it will likely be cold and very wet. We’ll see. Anyway, the warmth so far has been a bonus for the heating. We have hardly put it on yet.
