The Corona Diaries – Day 571

A dull grey day in Yorkshire – but not too cold. We went for a walk into town and ate a fabulous gelato from Robertos. Heavenly. It felt like a long way though.

Back home I’ve been playing some Otis Redding and writing some Beefheart. Not brilliantly productive. I’m going to see if I can’t do another few hours after this.

Meanwhile, out in Coronaland, we have to be extra careful this week because Johnson is coming back off holiday. It’s a dangerous time for everyone in the country.

The virus is on the rise – another 45,140 cases yesterday with 148 deaths. Can’t wait for my booster jab.

Russia is doing badly. There were in excess of a thousand deaths yesterday. Putin blames it on the Russian people being slow to take up the vaccine.

Over here invermectin is coming under scrutiny. I’m all in favour of finding a treatment. But is ivermectin a safe treatment? Does it work? As far as I can see the jury is out. We do know that the vaccines work though. I’ll stick with them. Personally I can’t see why anybody would want to take a jump in the dark and take something that might not work in preference to something we know works. This antiscience antiexpert thing is going daft. If I get ill I want the best treatment. If that’s invermectin then great. But I’d much prefer to not get the illness in the first place.

This is the magic age of vaccination. It seems that they now have the techniques to make vaccines fairly easily. This could mean that a lot of viruses could be completely eliminated. There is no reason why we can’t vaccinate people against Mers,Zika, Ebola, Lassa and Malaria.

I love science. I’ll be first in line.

Stay safe!!

I'd like to hear from you...
