I remember first hearing Hey Joe on the radio and being completely blown away. It was a new sound. Then Purple Haze came out and blew my socks off.
I bought the album and used to play it real loud on my little dansette. It was amazing. Jimi was one of the most exciting acts I ever saw perform – a superb musician, great songwriter, great singer and brilliant showman!! Also a great human being.
Such a great loss
jimi can always keep me sane. have always loved hendrix’s “seattle tunes:” red house, crosstown traffic, spanish castle magic. defined this area musically in perfect description. Otis Taylor has taken the overused “hey joe,” taking it to a musical and lyrical conclusion in “they wore blue.” https://youtu.be/JvC2kyj7lhI
I do not think he has ever been surpassed for his virtuosity. If only he had lived – if his girlfriend had got help sooner! I always wonder what sounds he’d be making now.
ah, if jimi had just not gott
…gotten into the “27 club’. remarkable player, no equals, then or now.
27 seems so incredibly young now. We could have had fifty more years of Jimi. Just imagine.
my mind and ears stand in absolute awe of 50 more years of jimi…damn.
Probably the biggest loss ever (I always wonder what Buddy Holly would have done with the Beatles).
the loss of hendrix seemed staggering at the time, more so as time passed and nobody better came along.
I know. And the more time goes by the greater the loss.
