India – on the road back to Chennai from Kanchipuram

These shots were taken through the window of the coach as it hurtled along. I was particularly taken with the gaily painted trucks.

Cows, goats and sheep roamed free at the side of the road and in and among the traffic.

There were lots of little temples and shrines.

A political campaign was underway.

India was desperately trying to bring it’s population down to manageable levels – they were trying to persuade people to have just one child – hence the WE TWO – OURS ONE campaign. I saw a number of signs advertised on trucks.

It seemed to me that there was a massive rebuilding programme going on with the clearance of slums and renovation of big areas.
