Today’s Music to keep me SANE during Isolation – Velvet Underground

The Velvets were a strange combination of forces – John Cale’s avant garde viola and droning sounds, Lou Reed’s experimental garage guitar, Sterling’s R&B, Nico’s lilting heavily accented voice and Moe’s steady drums, but it worked!

Those first couple of albums were groundbreaking. I remember playing them back in the 60s. They were like an East Coast dose of hard drugs and sexual fetish to counter the Acid Rock of the West Coast.

Straight out of Andy Warhol’s factory as a protopunk extravaganza. I used to play those albums a lot. The range was incredible – from soft and lilting to hard and raw.

So today I’m digging them out and giving them an outing. I might even pull out a Nico album or two!!

    1. I think one of their albums was voted the 19th best album of all time Pooj – a very seminal band.
