Salvador Dali – Surreal Quotes – Burning Elephants on stilts dripping ants!

Magritte is my favourite surrealist but Dali comes a close second. I was greatly affected by the madness of his work – not only impressively painted but incredibly original and weird. They shook me.

The man himself was just a weird and became a surreal parody of himself. Art, films, fashion, sculptures and performance. It was all surreal.

Seems closer to reality to me than reality.

Have no fear of perfection – you’ll never reach it.
Just do it!
I don’t do drugs. I am drugs.
We all are! The chemistry in our heads is what we manipulate.
Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings.
You’ve got to want to create – desperately want to create – not to achieve – certainly not to profit – but because you are full of it and it needs to come out. Do it and fly!
Each morning when I awake, I experience again a supreme pleasure – that of being Salvador Dali.
I feel the same – except I’m not Salvador Dali!
Those who do not want to imitate anything, produce nothing.
You start with imitation but then give vent to yourself.
The only difference between a madman and myself is that I am not mad.
But I am. We all need a bit of madness. To not be a little mad is to be boring, dull and ordinary.
At the age of six I wanted to be a cook. At seven I wanted to be Napoleon. And my ambition has been growing steadily ever since.
That’s what Donald did!
Surrealism is destructive, but it destroys only what it considers to be shackles limiting our vision.
We need something to knock us out of the ruts we make for ourselves.

    1. Hi Dewin – it goes well! Adjusting back to life as the corona virus puts an end to civilisation! (not before time!)
I love Dali! What a superb artist, showman and interesting guy!

  1. Your wit is as dry as ever Opher 😀 Good to hear you’re acclimatising…welcome back to blighted Old Blighty!

I don’t live in an overpopulated area but the steadily increasing – albeit low – numbers of people I’ve seen wearing face-masks is a little alarming. I also think the general lack of effective advice about COVID-19 coming from governments around the world is also concerning, but yet, we’re told the tipping-point of a pandemic is nearly reached.

Dali was the ultimate dreamer. His development of the Paranoiac-critical method amongst his finest work.

    1. I don’t think they will be able to stop it now. It is spreading too fast. Perhaps it is the beginning of a big cull. One of the themes in my new novel is the bacteria planning a cull of humans because we are reducing the biomass, hence available bacterial homes and food, of the planet.
Dali’s imagination and technical skill was extraordinary! He and Magritte are my favourites.

      1. 80,000+ confirmed cases worldwide thus far – and that only cases officially reported by governments around the world. However, the current rate of transmission possibly suggests the actual figure could be higher.

The beginning of a big cull. Hmm, now there’s a notion the conspiracy theorists could toy with with.

Apparently the U.K government has a plan to deal with an escalating epidemic (and potential pandemic), which starts with containment and ends with the Government taking full control of our crumbling, highly stressed, hugely underfunded, winter-pressured, and generally stricken NHS resources. So we’ll be fine!

You have a very vivid imagination Opher! The themes developed in your new novel sound intriguing: armies of prokaryotic microorganisms fight back! I don’t suppose they are easily bargained with.

      2. I’m in conversation with the bacillus in my head! I’m promising that we’re all going to be better in the future and we will address the biodiversity and put things right.
        They don’t believe me!
The cull might get a lot worse!

      3. 😀 They don’t believe you?! (Perhaps it is with good reason they distrust us! Undoubtedly they’ve been following our progress for aeons and are greatly disappointed by the reach of our evolution) ‘Tis the end of us for sure! The microbes will again inherit the Earth.
