The Eels – Novocaine for the soul – lyrics about the uncaring, shallow society we are building.

The pointless, greedy, uncaring society we are creating takes its toll on sensitive people. We seem to have areas of helpless futility. We seem to have many people in distress. If you do not want to play the game, seek wealth as a goal, and look to be a big wheel, you are there to be trodden down and spat upon.

Mark Everett sums it up for me in this great song. Our society is busy destroying the world for profit, steamrollering over people and nature, and not giving two hoots.

I want a more intelligence, caring culture! I want some society that cares for people and nature and wants to make the world more beautiful. I want a world that feeds the soul!

“Novocaine For The Soul”

Life is hard
And so am i
You’d better give me something
So i don’t dieNovocaine for the soul
Before i sputter outLife is white
And i am black
Jesus and his lawyer
Are coming back
Oh my darling
Will you be here
Before i sputter out

Guess whose living here
With the great undead
This paint-by-numbers life
Is fucking with my head
Once again

Life is good
And i feel great
’cause mother says i was
A great mistake

Novocaine for the soul
You’d better give me something
To fill the hole
Before i sputter out
