Money – Pink Floyd – Greed?

This song always summed up a lot of my feelings about money. No matter how much anyone earns it is never enough. Everybody thinks they deserve the money they have – no matter how excessive that is.

I wonder how all those multimillionaire Businesspeople, Bankers, Rock Stars, Sportspeople, Comedians and Entertainers, who stuff away their money in tax evading havens, justify the huge sums they are paid? Do they really believe they are worthy of such large payments? Do they really look down at those toiling away in mundane jobs with an arrogant eye?

There is a strange irony about this song too, isn’t there? I wonder how much it actually made the band, the record executives and those others in the biz?

  2. Funny that, a song like this making you think about money. You must surely be just one of the few.
    I’m so sick to death of it and the cd always gets skipped a track. It’s so ploddy and badly performed. In fact I’d go so far as to say it’s one Pink Floyd’s worst pieces of music.

    1. Well I can understand that. It certainly has been played to death. Though I still enjoy it greatly and there’s always those youngsters who are new to it. It highlights a very important element of greed that is particularly pertinent in these days of massive inequality.

  3. Tony, neither was I a big fan of this song either. This was Pink Floyd-go rock-by numbers. Musically it was Pink Floyd at their least sophisticated. The lyrics even by Roger Waters’ standards at the time were not his best effort. He’s since gone on record to say he’s slightly embarrassed by them. Not his finest hour. I seldom ever listen to it myself as it’s so overplayed. It’s the sort of song that people who don’t know anything about Pink Floyd might know. I’m waiting for that X-factor lady to record her version.
