Taiwan is a country that is ravaged by earthquakes so most of the old temples have been raised to the ground. There were still some to be found. They are, of course, very much in the old Chines style.
Out on the lake they have constructed new pagodas and enormous statues of the gods which are so gaudy that they look more like Disneyland than anything else to my Western eyes.
Stunning!
Cheers Jennie – it was certainly an interesting place!
😀
Wowwwww!
You liked them then Pooj!!
Absolutely!!
They were quite impressive in a gaudy sort of way.
My favourites are the little stone land God shrines your find in the middle of mountain trails.
I’m not sure we saw any of those! I wouid like to have seen them!
I just love TAIWAN, was there last year and want to go back ! I wrote something about the day and night markets that are quite famous too ! http://indianglobetrotter.com/taiwans-markets-thousand-marvels/

All a bit strange and gaudy to Western eyes.
