Gun Madness Continues in the USA – 17 Dead in Florida School Shooting.

How much longer are Americans going to sit back and allow this death toll to continue? How much longer are they going to allow mentally deranged kids, criminals and gangs to have access to assault rifles??

17 were shot dead in the latest School Massacre. They were shot my a nineteen year old mentally deranged student. He had already been expelled for discipline problems, had taken guns into school and frightened other students.

I don’t know about you but it seems madness to me to allow kids with mental health issues or major behaviour problems to have access to guns.

He was obsessed with guns and finally went into school with an AR-15 rifle and shot tens of people leaving 17 dead – the 8th most deadliest school massacre in history – so far! This was the 8th school shooting this year that has resulted in death and we are only seven weeks in.

There have 18 school incidents involving guns this year in what is an increasing trend.

2013 – 37    2014 – 58   2015 – 64    2016 – 48    2017 – 65    2018 – 18 (so far).

Everybody seems to be sitting on their hands and hiding behind this stupid 2nd amendment from an archaic constitution.

It seems insane to me that America is happy to put assault rifles in the hands of mentally ill kids and criminals. How many more deaths does it take? How much is the NRA paying and who too? Are they sanctioning kids being killed?

Surely it is time to limit the type of weapons being sold and to restrict who they are being sold to?

The Principal:

‘We could not have been more prepared for this situation … we have trained for this, we have trained the kids for what to do … We did everything that we were supposed to do.

I feel today like our government, our country, has failed us and failed our kids and didn’t keep us safe.’

Senator Chris Murphy:

‘This happens nowhere else other than the United States of America. This epidemic of mass slaughter, this scourge of school shooting after school shooting.

It only happens here not because of coincidence, not because of bad luck, but as a consequence of our inaction. We are responsible.’

  1. Too many guns period. Why would a woman a mother with a pile of children fill her house with guns, have a bath with guns, go to bed with guns – all true as seen on tv lately. I don’t ever believe that Guns will be banned, Americans have the right to bear arms, only they can change the law. They do need to check and change the law that would prevent people who have serious problems having guns, like this kid the FBI knew about him, what did they do?

Opher look here on the streets in major Cities, take London black men, boys all they want are guns, so cheap they have so many, shooting each other dead. We have a big problem here but don’t look at it don’t want to do anything about it. What’s the answer, the real answer?

    1. The real answer is to get rid of all guns. In the UK we have around 55 gun deaths a year. In the US (6 times bigger) there are over 8000. It’s in a different level altogether.
Each death is a death too much. Guns kill. How can they allow mentally disturbed kids to have access to assault rifles and semiautomatics?

      1. Well, I’m not a gun fan, but I gotta point out, guns don’t kill. People kill. If the people didn’t WANT to kill, guns would become a non sequitur. And if they want to kill someone and don’t have a gun, that’s not going to stop them. Part of the trouble here is there are guns all over the streets. You don’t have to buy them legally to get one. That’s part of the problem, too.

      2. Cheryl we have 55 gun deaths a year compared to well over 8000 in the States. Multiply by 6 to account for population and it would come out at 630. You are running at 13 times the rate.
If something isn’t done to stop these disturbed people and criminals getting semiautomatics and assault rifles America is going to become too dangerous to visit. It’s becoming like a 3rd World country.

  2. It’s not the Americans that are in favor of letting anyone have those guns. 71% of Americans polled last year said they wanted no bumps stocks, no automatic weapons, and they WANTED invasive background checks. It’s all so politicians in Washington who are so beholden to and controlled by the gun lobby that won’t move on this. I have a feeling things might be getting a little hot for them in DC after Trump said the kids — the victims — should have done more to protect themselves. There are no words to describe what I feel about this man. This just made me sick. How many more times does it have to happen before Congress stops hiding behind the NRA, gets off their lazy, self-centered butts and actually does something? Sigh…

    1. What the kids should now all take guns into school to protect themselves. The madness goes on.
It may be people that kill but people with a gun are much more dangerous than people without a gun.

      1. That’s true, but I don’t think they’ll ever clear the streets of them here. So the only ones turning them in for money will be the citizens who wouldn’t use them for violence anyway. How does that help?

      2. Cheryl – you have to start somewhere or the madness goes on. I would suggest:
        a. restricting weapons being sold – who on earth needs assault rifles or automatics?
        b. Restricting sales to those with mental illness or criminal records and making these people unable to possess weapons – with strict checks.
        c. For the FBI to follow up any social media claims by potential shooters and removing weapons.
        d. Age limit for possessing guns with strict parental oversight.
        e. More emphasis and checks on gun ownership and responsible use.
        That would be a start.
I think the country owes it to the tens of thousands of bereaved parents.

      3. You do realize that the strumpet just signed a bill to undo all those things up there that Obama did, right? This is such an uphill battle…

      4. No. I didn’t know that Cheryl. He seems to have a real vindictive streak that man. If Obama did it then he will undo it regardless of good or bad.
What has the fool done now?

      5. Obama had put quite a bit of gun safety stuff in place. Like deep background checks for one. Trump just “relaxed” all the requirements in Obama’s bill for owning and buying guns. And you’re exactly right. It’s obvious to everyone that if it’s something Obama did, Trump is going to undo it. That’s why he can’t give up fighting the Affordable Care Act — though he’s already done a lot of damage to it.

  3. This is heartbreaking. Someone predicted that the US is headed for another civil war. The signs are there – extreme polarization, violent protests and counter-protests, the widening gap between the wealthiest 1% and everyone else, collapsing bipartisan efforts in the legislatures, and fewer people who even want to consider compromise. Opher, you mentioned that the gun violence will chase away the tourist dollar. I have to admit that I don’t want to visit the States anymore and I’m just 90 minutes by car away from the closest border crossing at Queenston/Lewiston.

    1. It is the level of hatred and distrust that seems to be there John. The polarisation is so extreme. I’ve never known anything like it. America is eating itself up. I really don’t think I’d want to go back there at the minute. The violence is terrible.

      1. I can’t imagine a civil war on our doorstep. I know the vast majority of Americans are decent, law-abiding people, but all hell could break loose with all the guns in civilian hands.

      2. The trouble with humans is that they are excitable. Things just take off and go out of control. The insanity of a mob is scary. Anything could happen.

  4. Reblogged this on Opher's World and commented:

Condolences to the poor families in Texas. This madness has to stop. People buying assault rifles is utter madness.
On May 24, 2022, 18-year-old Salvador Rolando Ramos fatally shot nineteen students and two teachers, and wounded seventeen other people at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Enough is surely enough. America is becoming a third world country. It’s too unsafe.

    1. Howdy pardner! Somehow that greeting seems appropriate these days. It’s starting to feel like we live in the old west again. I get more sick at my stomach every time there’s a mass shooting. I wish there was a magic spell to make all the guns melt, or turn into a bouquet of daisies or something! Must admit it makes me tense when I go out. But so far Utah has been spared from these horrendous shootings.

      1. Howdy Cheryl!!! So good to hear from you!! Are you OK?? Have you fully recovered from all your travails?? I have been feeling so guilty not contacting you. Great to hear from you.

      2. Oh posh! No need to feel guilty! I’m slower than cold tar myself. I will drop you a note while I’m on here. Big hugs, my friend!<3
