Yes the council have done a lot of good things. The city was devastated in the Second World War – the second most bombed city for its population. It was neglected for so long and the fishing industry crashed (along with a lot of others). The Tory government left the northern cities to rot. But Blair put a lot of money in and revived the centre and a lot of industry. The City of Culture has really given it an injection of capital. People have flocked to see the place and all the events. They’ve loved it. There is a great music, drama and art scene. Great to see.
