Sums it up Mary. More than depressing. I feel so distressed for nature. I have pictures in my head of destruction of forests and death of animals. All that matters is money.
If u may tell me why did the Americans elected trump as the president? If he is not a deserving leader. If he is such a threat to the world to ur nation to peace then why? Arent people smart enough there or i am the one who doesnt know the actual reason! Why why why trump?
Because he promised them the earth and they were desperate; because the system has let them down; because they wanted to hit out; because they were lied to; because the fear of immigrants and terrorism was ratcheted up; because he provided things and people to blame and told them that it was going to be alright; because he came up with simple black and white solutions to complex problems; because they saw him as being outside the political system; because he was a celebrity; because he was rich and they looked up to him; because he appeared strong; because he used racism and sexism to ratchet up hate and unified people behind a cause; because they thought anything was better than what they had; because they wanted their nostalgic dream of a past that never was back and real – and because they were gullible and believed him.
That about sums it up, Opher….And he is a very good con man.
I wouldn’t buy a car from him let alone Tower Bridge (which I believe has been sold a number of times!).

Okay he promised, he made you see a better oblivious world through his eyes. But he hasnt done anything yet too. His first day as president and people want him gone are against him. People say he is short tempered, psyhic and wat else. With Barack obama literally i felt the country was united but with him it feels false. I pray he turns out to be a great president and a person where people can look upto him.
I hope he is successful too. But it isn’t all about money. It is about people and the planet. It isn’t all about America. It is about the rest of the world. I fear he is too narrow-minded and money orientated. I think he is going to be a disaster for the world and nature.
You are quite right. The ordinary working people of America were forgotten, Obama did not care none of the Politicians cared. The people were crying out to be heard and along came a man Donald Trump and he listened, and the people Voted, and yesterday I watched as President Elect Donald Trump was sworn in as President. He has said America First, American jobs for American People etc, and had he said different he would have been criticized. The Man cannot win with some people. Donald Trump was the right Man for the Job. Obama despite what some say was the most ineffectual president.
I think you are right about the people that have been forgotten here and in America. As globalisation, automation and technology moved on a lot of the industries (coal, steel, ship building, cars etc.) were either moved to cheap labour abroad, automated or superseded by new developments. The Coal, Oil and Gas are old polluting fuels that needs to be consigned to the past and replaced by clean technology and sustaining energy. The trouble is that as these industries shut down and the people were put out of work not enough care was taken to find them alternative employment at a similar level. That is where resentment sets in. Here and in America there was despair and disillusionment and nobody was addressing it. The corporations were taking their profits and running. The establishment was taking their cut and nobody was caring about the people or the future.
Where you are wrong is that believing that Trump or Brexit was the answer. That is a huge mistake. He’s a billionaire who has been exploiting everyone. He was not listening in order to put things right. He was looking to exploit them and get their votes by whatever means. That’s how fascism works. Brexit has the same people making the money and less for everyone else. We will all suffer and none of the problems will have been addressed.
Trump and Brexit will both be disasters. The country will be poorer, disrupted and run by a bunch of extremely unpleasant people. Trump will prove an environmental catastrophe as he runs the place for profit and fuck the consequences. The people who will profit from this mess will be the same crew who lurk in the background pulling the strings. You can be sure Trump will come out of it one hell of a lot richer.

Our country is very divided. More people voted for Clinton than Trump, but the way the system works, he won. It’s not all of us! Most of us didn’t want him and can see through his rhetoric. He pretends to have simple answers to complex questions. I hope you won’t judge this country by our new leader. He is mentally ill. The majority of us, believe it or not, don’t want him!
I know that Mary. It is the same with Brexit over here with exactly the same reasons. Most people did not have a clue as to the cost or what it would mean. Same fears ratcheted up. Same lies. Same reasons. Now the Brexiteers are either gleeful or feel pushed into a corner and blamed so they staunchly defend their logic.
The true cost of Brexit will be felt a generation down the line. It will start becoming clear in a few years.
The worst thing of all is that the environment will suffer most – all the legislation, all the united collaboration – big business will run rings round it to make profit and desperate politicians, trying to shore up the economy, will let them.

Most people DID have a clue as to the cost. It was heavily advertised Opher. It was all over the media. How could you have missed it?
The projections were that it will take us to anywhere between 2025 and 2030 to pay it all off.
Any large scale changes are expensive, so there’s absolutely no surprises with this.
It would have been even more expensive had we not been just a part-time member and if we had had the Euro as our currency. In real terms, we are getting out of the EU for the least amount possible.
The EU had 28 countries.
How many of them were effective members paying their way?

The EU was an unmitigated financial and social disaster for the UK.
Heavily advertised? You jest. They don’t have a clue as to the costs now. Nobody does. We are beginning to understand the army of lawyers and bureaucrats that will be needed. I know the ridiculous cost of changing from Yorkshire to Humberside. The cost of this change is of a different magnitude and that is without the impact on the pound and economy. The cost is unknown and will be colossal. It will make our contribution to Europe look miserly.
I like the idea in Europe of subsidising the poorer countries and bringing everyone up to a level. It is how the USA works. The poorer States are supported by the wealthier ones. The union of the States provides more prosperity and power. Some, like Mississippi, are so poor they would struggle on their own and descend into third world countries.

Andrew you pretend to know all this but it was not discussed and still isn’t known so you talk bullshit. The number of civil servants, bureaucrats and lawyers working to untangle the whole thing is boggling. Nobody has put a figure on that cost.
Nobody knows what will be the outcome of negotiations or the deal reached. Nobody knows how many firms or personnel will relocate.
Nobody knows the downward effect on the economy.
Nobody knows the numbers of jobs that will be lost.
Nobody knows where the pound will end up.
Nobody knows how long it will take to set up trade deals or what they will be like.
The cost of untangling, even if everything went perfectly (which it won’t), is going to be colossal.
Perhaps they should simply sack all those involved and ask you?
My daughter lived in Louisiana and I’ve travelled extensively through Mississippi. I know what a state it is. Without the rest of the states to prop it up it would be a disaster area of epic proportions. Stop being an arse. That’s precisely what I was saying. You choose to misrepresent.

What they do know are perameters. They have a rough idea of what the costs will be.
We’ve seen some really silly figures being banded about, like 60 Billion for a hard Brexit. But there isn’t going to be one, supposedly.
All the rest of your list of points are actually quite similar to what the process is every year for the next budget.
I don’t share your concerns because the economics are all within scale. All these points are always relevant at all times, with or without the EU.

You’re focusing on details that are normal government process for changing very small agenda. There’s always loads of lawyers and legal-eagles involved.
I can see why you think it’s all such a great big deal and slightly scary, but it can’t be much different from the due process of anything of this nature. It will be a lot of work for those involved, but this is what these people do. This is their forte in life.
I know you don’t like anything that’s to do with detail and facts and lists of facts and details, but I’m afraid that’s just how it is and I think this is perhaps indicative of your lack of real business experience if at this early stage you are too worried about there not being any accurate figures available.

Well I’m glad that you think it was discussed and understood. I have not seen any hard facts concerning the costs involved – just wild guesses.
They are hiring thousands of extra people and employing an army of solicitors. I don’t think we will ever know the true cost because it will be hidden up. It will be enormous. What a waste of money!
Couple that with the cost to the economy and I believe it will be like shooting yourself in the head. That’s without the other psychological, emotional, environmental and logistic implications.

My hope for Europe is that the poorer countries would be assisted by the stronger ones until there is uniform prosperity. Until that happens we must have some limitations on migration and assistance for them to progress. That is my view.

We had friends round Anna and they wanted to see it so I obliged and we sat in front of the fire, drank some wine and watched Trump being rude. It was embarrassing and frightening.
Well thank God you had wine! I was reading this morning about how his new policies are going to affect (?) seniors… OMG! We are SO screwed… We won’t even be able to get Medicare. Part of what I read said basically if you’re not on disability and you can stand up, you gotta go look for work and get your insurance through your employer. Well number one, employers over here don’t HIRE people over 50, and number two, they only hire part time when they do so they don’t HAVE to provide insurance. And I understand he wants to do away with the pre-existing conditions clause Obama made sure was in there (in fact I think he already did this morning). He is essentially trying to kill off the baby-boomer generation. I didn’t watch it. I would have bawled all afternoon. But boy they were all glued to the TV at physical therapy yesterday… It just made me stop and look at Frank (the therapist) and think “What’s wrong with you?” have you ANY idea how this is going to DECREASE your business since us old folks won’t be able to afford physical therapy and it won’t be covered by our insurance? They just don’t get it and won’t until it hits their pocketbooks. It costs me $60 an hour for therapy, and that’s AFTER the insurance pays around $100. I’ll be baggin’ that, I can tell you right now.
I think people will be shocked by the effects of his policies. It is not just the economic stuff. If he brings back all the polluting industries and cuts out the environmental protections like he seems to be doing the planet is screwed.
What people don’t understand is that in an effort to shut down a lot of the programs (like welfare) that Republicans claim are being abused by the blacks and other minorities is that when you look at the figures (which can be found at government sites on line), it is NOT the minorities who are the major beneficiaries of these programs. It is the poor whites in the south. So by doing away with these programs to “save money”, Trump is stabbing his own supporters in the back. How long will it take, I wonder, for them to figure it out?
The trouble is that people like Trump try to control the media and then divert the blame on to others and ratchet up the hate. I bet his policies will hit those poor whites who supported him but he’ll blame it on the blacks, Hispanics and China – and they will believe him. His support base is the uneducated, poor and gullible.
