The arguments for and against grammar schools both miss the point | David Willetts | Opinion | The Guardian

90% of the population labelled failures and stigmatised at eleven years old! Great for the few but what about the vast majority? What are those schools going to be like without all the high flyers? The aspirational children? The people to look up to and receive help from? What is going to happen to the 90% of failures? Self-fulfilment?
A charter for the rich to tutor their kids and dump everyone else! Disgusting!! And right-wing Tory travesty!

  1. You’d never guess what I’ve spent the last two days doing… Assessing second graders at a local elementary school to see if they can read…

  2. Never mind edjewkayshun, where’s my promised mp3’s, I’ve been chomping at the bit to hear?

    1. Now then Andrew – sorry – I’ve been away – been tramping round the Dales and then off to London for Harpic! I’m back now for a couple of days – heading for Edinburgh! I’ll sort the MP3s this evening and wing them your way!
Do we get to meet in Edinburgh?

      1. Relax, I already knew you were elsewhere!
I read this morning on Stormcock that you’ve been hob-knobbing backstage with groupies etc. Perhaps I exaggerate.
Anyways, so your coming oop north for some much needed culture are you? Good on you! Aye, obviously we’ll get to meet up. Exactly where I’m not sure yet, but I’m going to post Stormcock to ask where the Harpies will be using as the pub to be at. I’m just so out that picture as I haven’t been to Edinburgh for at least 8/9 years now. I’ve simply no idea what the names of the bars are around the Usher Hall.
But we’ll both know in due course.
Remember that you’ll be in Scotland, so you’ll be needing to bring your own money!
        Cheers.
